Yankees bring back Luke Weaver to add depth at starter
The Yankees are bringing back a late-season flier from 2023 for more starting pitching depth in 2024.
The club is in agreement with right-hander Luke Weaver on a one-year, $2 million contract, The Post’s Jon Heyman confirmed on Thursday.
The deal includes a club option for 2025 with a $2.5 million base salary, though Weaver could earn up to $6 million based on how many innings he throws in 2024.
While the Yankees continue to pursue a high-end starter to fill out their rotation, Weaver should provide some much-needed depth.
The 30-year-old joined the Yankees last September after being claimed off waivers from the Mariners.
He made three starts before the end of the season, allowing five earned runs across 13 ⅓ innings while striking out 16.
Weaver threw 132 ⅔ innings in 2023 (123 ⅔ in the majors), which gives him a solid foundation to build on in 2024.
Across parts of eight seasons in the big leagues, Weaver owns a 5.14 ERA.
